The planned wind farm in the community of Burghaun is expected to be operational by 2028. It will consist of five turbines with a combined capacity of 33 MW, enough to supply more than 22,700 households with green electricity each year. Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, highlights the project’s dual focus on promoting energy transition and maintaining environmental integrity. The development strategy includes using existing agricultural infrastructure and avoiding environmentally sensitive areas to minimize environmental impact.

This project is a key element of RWE’s strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Germany. RWE currently operates around 90 onshore wind farms across the country and plans to invest around €11 billion in Germany’s renewable energy infrastructure by 2030. This commitment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen RWE’s onshore wind and solar business in Germany, including the expansion of its workforce by approximately 200 employees dedicated to on-site project development.
