Hywind Tampen
Located in the Norwegian North Sea, the Hywind Tampen offshore wind farm stands as the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm and is the first designed to power offshore oil and gas installations. With an impressive capacity of 88 MW, the project annually reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 200,000 tons and NOx emissions by 1,000 tons.
Hollandse Kust Zuid
Situated off the coast of the Netherlands, Hollandse Kust Zuid is the largest subsidy-free wind farm globally, boasting a capacity of 1.5 GW. This groundbreaking project includes 139 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW turbines, which together provide energy to 1.5 million households, setting a new standard for large-scale renewable energy projects without governmental financial support.
Seagreen
Scotland’s Seagreen offshore wind farm features the world’s deepest fixed-bottom foundations, extending 58.7 meters below sea level. Equipped with 114 Vestas 10 MW turbines and a total capacity of 1,075 MW, Seagreen generates enough electricity to power 1.6 million homes annually, illustrating the potential of offshore wind technology.
Nagqu
In the mountains of Tibet, China, the Nagqu ultra-high-altitude wind farm holds the title of the world’s highest, situated at an altitude of 4,650 meters. With a capacity of 100 MW, it provides 200 million kWh of electricity annually, serving 230,000 residents. This project demonstrates the capability of wind technology to operate efficiently at extreme altitudes and in harsh conditions.
WindFloat Atlantic
Off the coast of Portugal, WindFloat Atlantic is the world’s first semi-submersible floating offshore wind farm. This innovative design allows wind turbines to be installed in deeper waters where traditional fixed-bottom structures are not feasible. The project comprises three 8.4 MW Vestas turbines, powering over 25,000 households and avoiding 33,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
